In her first operation, as a member of the Third Fleet, she attacked Taiwan Island, the Philippines, Okinawa and Japan. In 1945, the Hancock took part in attacks on Indochina, Okinawa and the Japanese mainland. She was damaged by a plane explosion in January 1945, and was attacked by a suicide plane in April. After Operation "Magic Carpet" in 1947, the Hancock was placed in reserve service and served for a long time after being modernized. It was eventually decommissioned and demolished in 1976. The Hancock won 5 Battle Star Medals and 1 Team Medal during its service in World War II.
