The USS Kitty Hawk is the second naval ship named after Kitty Hawk, NC. She was laid down in December of 1956 and built by the New York Ship building Corporation in Camden NJ. Kitty Hawk was launched on May 21 1960 and commissioned in Philadelphia at the Naval Shipyard on April 29 1961.
