Description
The Admiral Hipper entered service on April 29, 1939. She is the first ship of 5 warships of this class. She participated in the invasion of Norway. On April 8, 1940, she encountered the British Royal Navy destroyer Firefly in the northwest of Trondheim Port, and exchanged fire with it, severely injuring the Firefly. But the Firefly crashed into Hipper before sinking, causing trauma. After repairs, the Shipper sailed with Scharnhorst and Gneisenau to disrupt the British supply line. Hipper attacked the WS-5A fleet in December 1940 as an attack ship. On February 12th of the following year, she intercepted the unescorted SLS-64 fleet and sank 7 cargo ships, while the remaining ships fled in bad sea conditions. Due to lack of ammunition for the main artillery, Hipper returned to Brest Port on February 14, 1941.
